How long does it literally take to learn the piano?
One question I get literally all the time is" How long does it take to play piano?". Well it takes exactly 39 days 21 hours and 22 seconds to learn piano. I am just kidding there is no finite amount of time; it's gonna take you to learn piano a lot of people ask me hoping that , I will give them something definite like that; but there's a lot of factors at play that will determine how long it's going to take you to learn.
Five factors to learn
Piano:
The first factor is How much natural ability do you have a lot
of us are you know not prodigies and it doesn't get it isn't going to take us
just five minutes to learn piano or even just a few days there are some very
rare exceptions; you've probably seen them out there on YouTube of the
five-year-old that can play piano like way you pay you better than probably
I'll ever be able to but for the most part a lot of us take different amounts
of time to learn things and within music there's some things you're gonna learn
right away and some things you're gonna really struggle with so don't
feel bad. If you struggle with something that everybody else gets; because as
you move along you might actually find something that you get a lot faster and
other people struggle with so one of the big factors like I said is how much
natural ability do you have and it's very subjective it's not just; you're here
or here a lot of times it just depends on what the topic is all right.
Let's get into the second factor number two is how much
practice time do you have each day you know some of us are really busy
like myself and you don't have three hours a day to practice some of us have
hours and hours a day to practice. Some of us want to practice for a long
periods of time; some of us do not so that's obviously going to factor in
you know how much progress you're gonna make over a period of time in general.
so as long as you are spending time on the right things more practice equals
better results or faster results over a period of time. so if I practice for
four hours a day over a month. I am gonna make a lot more progress than just
practicing one hour a day over month but realistically not all of us have that
luxury of time; In fact a lot of us who are adults especially: I can't even
imagine what it's like having kids. I don't know how you do it. I don't know
how all of you do it have kids work and then do everything else; you need to do
I'm barely keeping afloat here so you know do you have so many things on your
mind so many things to take care of so do what you can; But obviously the
amount of time you are spending will have an impact on how much progress ; you
are gonna make.
The third factor is how many days a week do you practice not
only how much time during the day do you have to practice; whether it's an hour
three. But how many days can you get consecutively most importantly to practice
practicing a little bit each day over a long period of time is much better than
practicing hours and hours all at once. However if you only have one day a week
to practice that might be with you how it might be what you have to deal with
in terms of making progress and that's something that's gonna factor into it.
If you can try to get more days of practice in and less time if I mean
obviously if you could get four hours a day every day. That would be absolutely
amazing; But you are 99.9 of us probably are not going to be able to do
that so get what time you can and then if you are only getting it in on one
day. See if you can rearrange your schedule to get them in you know a look
maybe smaller sessions every day.
Factor number four is "How do well do you focus during your
practice session?" Earlier I mentioned that you know obviously the amount
of time. you are spending is gonna factor into it; But really what are you
spending your time on are you goofing around or you like getting right into the
things of what you really need to cover what I recommend you do is come up with
a list of things you have to cover during the practice like scales, slate,
reading ear training or whatever you feel like you need to add in your practice
mix; you can obviously also ask your teacher. If you have one of those what you
should be practicing each day make a list of those cover those things first in
your practice session and then goof around. I actually recommend you do goof
around just a little bit during your practice onwards the end of course.
Because learning piano should be fun right and if you're spending all your time
on these things that you may kinda like you may not like at all. You want to be
spending some time on other things to reignite that you do want to have some
fun when you practice. But it can't be all fun and games; because if it is
you're not going to make that progress.
How do you define learning piano anyways a lot of people when
they ask me how long does it take to learn piano. I think in their minds they
have how long is it before I can play like Mozart well the answer is probably
never. I hate to tell you because Mozart was a genius a prodigy and trained
from the time he was very .So like I said a lot of us do not have I don't even
know; If I would call it a luxury at that point but the luxury of the time and
the talent. so when I'm talking about all this I'm talking about how long does
it take to be able to read music play pieces on your own gradually get into
more and more difficult pieces as you get along. But happen basically "Can
you play piano pieces for somebody else?" and do those pieces sound like
what they're supposed to or close to it. You know can you play a happy birthday
on the piano and does it sound like happy birthday you could even say that that
you at that point you've learned piano you can play something on piano for
somebody but it really depends on what you're shooting for and what your goals
and how you define it as I'm making a very loose definition. But the answer
is if you're actually looking for the answer of how long does it take the
master piano become concert level all that stuff it depends on all the factors
that I've given you above however it really depends on how far you want to go.
But to be honest with you toad master piano an get to that level it takes years
and years and I really believe that you could never completely master piano. Because
there's so much more to learn out there like the more you learn about piano and
music usually the more that's out there that you can understand. so it keeps
expanding and expanding and there's no real definite endpoint especially
you have in the modern age where we have electronic music and there's different
you know things to learn behind making those sounds the oscillators and things
like that so there's always new stuff to learn and thanks to technology. Even
if you do somehow master all of the classical Baroque you know 20th century
stuff so there's a lot to learn.
How much time it
requires to get strong strategy on piano?
To begin
with, we need to characterize what this implies utilizing a particular
capability. I characterize strong procedure as having the option to play each
of the 12 Major Scales at 90 bpm, Sixteenth Notes.
Does this
mean you've dominated strategy? Obviously not, yet you do have SOLID method.
You have the finger strength, smoothness, and coordination to play most
melodies.
What amount
of time does it require to arrive? Around 12 weeks, IF, you practice 10 minutes
per day for 5 to 6 days of the week. This doesn't mean you can skirt 5 days and
practice an hour on the most recent day. Anyone who has played piano realizes
that doesn't tally.
Likewise,
you'll need to work on utilizing "Quickened Learning Techniques" in
the event that you need to have unshakable method in 12 weeks. Simply playing
scales again and again will not get you as quick of results. I have four
exercises on quickened learning for piano in my free course, Become a Piano
Superhuman.
Phases of Piano Learning :
Numerous
frameworks of piano investigation are coordinated with 10 levels or
evaluations. At the point when you have arrived at a specific level, you can
hope to have the option to dominate any piece at that level with only a couple
a long time of training. It is conceivable to become familiar with a piece a
couple of levels higher than your present level, however it might requires a
long time of training. Not just that, there might be specialized difficulties
in the piece that you are not completely ready for.
When all is
said in done, piano understudies can arrive at Level 1 following a time of
devoted examination, Level 2 following two years, etc, yet this is just an
unpleasant rule. Look at the example recordings underneath to perceive what
sort of music you'll have the option to play at each level. You can see them
all together, or hop around utilizing these connections:
Without
Experience, Prep A, Prep B, 1A, 1B, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10.
Without Experience:
Prior to
you've even had a solitary exercise, you can figure out how to play a couple of
tunes. Notwithstanding, you'll likely be restricted to each deliver turn, each
note in turn, with your hands in a single position.
Phase Prep A:
Now, you're
beginning to add basic two-note harmonies, and can play a more extensive scope
of songs.
Phase Prep B:
Two hands
can play along with expanding intricacy. You've taken in a couple of harmonies,
similar to I, IV, and V7, and can utilize them in more mind boggling rhythms.
Phase 1A:
Presently
you can play quicker tunes, and are consolidating more elements and
articulation.
Phase 1B:
You can
play melodies that require more hand moving, and you've figured out how to get
over and under with your fingers.
Phase 2:
You can
play one-octave scales in a couple of keys, stretch your fingers to deal with
skips, and utilize an assortment of harmonies.
Phase 3:
Presently
your hands are more free, and you've kept on dominating the abilities you
acquired in before years.
Phase 4:
You can
play melodies that incorporate an octave reach, arpeggios, and steady hand-moving.
Phase 5:
You perform
at more prominent rates and your virtuosity is starting to arise.
Phase 6:
Your
imaginative articulation keeps on creating. Your fingers are OK with regular
more extensive spans, and you can play four-note harmonies.
Phase 7:
More mind
boggling keys and harmonies are currently open to you. You can play really
testing old style music.
Phase 8:
Presently
you can play music with enormous harmonies at virtuoso speed.
Phase 9:
Presently
speed and enormous harmonies are joined with brisk, wide-running hand shifts.
Phase 10:
With
virtuosic speed on twofold octaves, arpeggios, huge harmonies, and quick hand
moves, there's very little outside of uncompromising old style collection that
you can't deal with.
What is the best age for youngsters to start learning the Piano?
Guardians who give their youngsters the endowment of melodic training
start them out on a way that will advance their lives from numerous points of
view. Contemplating music creates discipline, deftness, knowledge, and makes an
ability that can carry bliss to both the entertainer and to all who tune in. As
indicated by a new article in the LA Times, 6-year-olds who got console
guidance had more mind development and preferred fine engine abilities over
their friends. You, as a parent, need these advantages for your youngster,
however you may be pondering when to start piano exercises.
Most importantly, let me say that there is no age that is ideal for all
youngsters. You can discover instances of youngsters who began piano exercises
at three years of age, however that is uncommon. Different children who start
as late as possible likewise become amazing proficient musicians. The
individuals who start later in their youngsters probably won't be prepared to
enter school as a piano major, yet they can in any case get a ton of advantage.
